Sports is a Physical Art

Art and sports were probably more clearly linked at the time of Ancient Greece, when gymnastics and calisthenics invoked admiration and aesthetic appreciation for the physical build, prowess and 'arete' displayed by participants. The modern term 'art' as skill, is related to this ancient Greek term 'arete'. The closeness of art and sport in these times was revealed by the nature of the Olympic Games which, as we have seen, were celebrations of both sporting and artistic achievements, poetry, sculpture and architecture.
When You presenting your country as a sportsman/woman that time what you will consider art or you will do your best performence?

  2. Dude, similar to Bardia i would do my level best to achieve good results if i were to represent my country at any international sport occasions...
I would really concentrate and think positively to push myself to the limit so that i could win the game or whatsoever...
Saddam you should know one thing...there is nothing but sports can make the country known and famous very fast!!! As a matter of fact, Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic bring about fame to his country, Serbia after winning his first Grand Slam title at the age of 20, he was the youngest to win such prestigious tournament!!! People started talking about him and his country after his countless successful matches...

  3. When everybody represent their country, of course they want to give the best performance for their country and in order to give best performance they also need to consider few things such as challenges they can do in their performance and how beautiful their performance (art). Therefore in my opinion to give best performance athletes also must consider art in their performance.

  5. Every sport is an artwork. It has the players’ heart and soul in it when they are trying to create history. The best performance is of course. Every individual whether representing or nor representing their country, as long as they are in a competition, they will give their level best. Who would want to give up a whole lot of practices that comes along with hard work? I don’t think anyone would do that. On the other hand, to win the competition is another issue by itself. I always believe that no matter whatever that is being done, we need a little bit of luck. But no doubt that there are always challenges waiting to put us down.

  6. I agree with ee lynn that sport is an artwork , you got to have a balance of both , the pure determination of hardwork and the art of capturing the attention of the crowds with your presence and when this two combine together and only then you would not just make your country proud but achieving something better which is entertaining the crowds and mesmerizing the audience because sports are not only just to compete is all about entertaining the crowd and bringing the people together whatever race they may be.

  7. Sports is first and foremost a physical activity, and judged by performance. Its your performance that dictates how good you are, and where you have to ameliorate.

  10. I dont really get your question, Art or Performance. My friend i think it depends on the event your participating in. Some events need both art and performance eg Gymnastics. Others is the way you perform eg Football. Anyway having all performance, art and skill is the one that will make you compete and win. Everyone goes out there and gives it there best shot wether its for them or there country.

  11. Sportsmen always try their level best to play their role on the games. Art and sports sounds different but as you mentioned they have linkage between I can’t ignore your words because sports carry arts itself. As Mr. bardia said to you earlier, when a sportsmen play for his country he should try his best to do for the country.

  12. Well,I will do my best in any performance for my country nor for myself.I would say that some sports are an arts, for example; gymnastic and swimming and by your best effort can be seen like an art. Therefore, putting effort to do the best performance is the art of sports and in the same time, sports can shows the culture and tradition of a particular country. Therefore, doing the best for your country could make people proud of your country as well as to yourself.

  13. Well, my friend let me tell you, to win any contest one requires both best performance and the way of doing(art) which makes his/her effort exceptional over competitors. If I would get chance to represent my country I would put both into practice.
