Technology in sports

Technology has an important role in sports, whether applied to an athlete's health, the athlete's technique, or equipment's characteristics.
Equipment As sports have grown more competitive, the need for better equipment has arisen. Golf clubs, football helmets, baseball bats, soccer balls, hockey skates, and other equipment have all seen considerable changes when new technologies have been applied.
Health ranging from nutrition to the treatment of injuries, as the knowledge of the human body has deepened over time, an athlete's potential has been increased. Athletes are now able to play to an older age, recover more quickly from injuries, and train more effectively than previous generations of athletes.
Instruction advancing technology created new opportunities for research into sports. It is now possible to analyze aspects of sports that were previously out of the reach of comprehension. Being able to use motion capture to capture an athlete's movement, or advanced computer simulations to model physical scenarios has greatly increased an athlete's ability to understand what they are doing and how they can improve themselves.
Is it necessary to use new tachnology in Sports?

  1. That’s great topic to discuss!!! In my opinion as long as the technology is hiring for the better standards and improvements among the activities, it must be appreciated. As we have encountered to the saturation in the aspect of social issues, there is the need of improvement on the traditional systems of the gyms and so on to motivate the public to spend more time for their healthiness.

  2. It is a nice topic to be discuss. Of course technology is playing an important role in sports. As what been mentioned by Mr Brad, technology provides a better standards and improvements among the sports and activities. Technology helps a lots no matter in improving the athlete's skills or in their health. Besides, it helps also in prevent from injured. For example, equipment that protect the athletes in their sports.

  3. I would certainly agree with new technology is sports. For instance of a baseball player, if the computer can calculate the right angle, the right body structure, the weight to swing and others, wouldn’t you think that the batting would be much better and accurate comparing to the ones without the help of the computer?
If by having new technology in sports, it might not be a very thing if humankind starts to depend on it. It is very normal for humankind to depend on something that gives them benefits but then everyone can be a good athlete if we depend on technology. You and I can be a professional athlete too.

  4. yes i do agree with this article, technology has gone a long way with sports for example my favourite sport would be football and a lot of times in the game if the ball would barely cross the goal keeper's line and the referee can't see clearly but the goal has actually gone in, and that would be a very big issue but thankfully with technology there is a thing called the goal line technology this can help referee all over the world making better decision in calling the game. 5. Technology is needed, only to alleviate the level of the game, and not to influence it. Each sport discipline has its own technonlogy requirement,so there cannot be a uniform technology application for all sports. The current boss of european soccer,Michel platini, is opposed to ecxcess technology, because as he says, sports is human, and should remain so.I absolutely agree

  7. September 2001, Cameron Clapp lost both legs and his right arm in a freak train accident. But thanks to a new set of high-tech prosthetics, Clapp can run again and he's even winning some medals. Technology reporter Xeni Jardin profiles Clapp.
Supported by his large extended family and his identical twin brother Jesse Clapp has fought against his handicap to make an astounding recovery.
Not only can the young man swim, run and even play golf again, he recently won four gold medals at the Endeavor Games, a sports competition for amputees.

  8. Everyone around admires new technology and always want to know about the new technology introduced. The use of technology in sports has made the sports more exciting especially by the supporters around. Nowadays people can see replays in more effective ways even replays in miles per second. If you recently watched the Euro 2008 and compared it with the Euro of 2006 you see a a much better televised football game due to the new technology in cameras, audio, replays etc.
So am with new technology in sports but to a certain extend because i also being lucky is also the fun of the game, (one time with you another time against you). If technology is used fully like lets in Football then no need to have referees which will make the game boring.

  9. The world of sport is continually changing over the years, and the use of technology is just one of those areas that have made an impact on many sports in the modern day. Here are some good examples of using technology in the sports.
    Assisting the Umpires / Referees
Most professional sports in the United States have long used instant replay and other high-tech aids to help referees make the right call. Gridiron has used video replay systems to check referees' calls for many years. Basketball referees use replay systems to make sure players are shooting within the time allotted by the shot clock. In international cricket, the third umpire has been used, one sitting off the ground with access to TV replays of certain situations (such as disputed catches and boundaries) to advise the central umpires. The umpires out on the field are in communication via wireless technology with the other umpire. The third umpire is also asked to adjudicate on run out decisions, which he makes without consultation with the two central umpires. One sport that has resisted tech use of high-tech assistance is soccer/football. Replays could be used to decide off-side decisions, whether a ball passes over the goal line, and clarify penalty decisions.
    Soccer Goal Line Technology
There has been a need for goal line technology in soccer, particularly as TV reply’s are showed in retrospect wrong decisions by the referee. The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has laid down four criteria that they want to see in goal-line systems:
    • The technology should only apply to goal-line decisions.
    • The system must be 100 per cent accurate.
    • The signal sent to the referee must be instantaneous.
    • The signal is only communicated to the match officials.
A promising prospect has been a "smartball" loaded with an computer chip, jointly developed by German companies Cairos Technologies and the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits, an engineering research and software development company, along with the Adidas athletic clothing and shoe company. The companies' technology uses a network of receivers around the field designed to track the ball's precise position in real time - including exactly when it has fully passed the goal line. That information would be relayed in less than a second to a watch-like device worn by the referee. However, this system has had its setbacks, and another system using, The Hawk-Eye, is being looked at.
    Hawk-Eye Technology
Hawk-eye is the name of a computer and camera system which traces a ball's trajectory. It is being used in international cricket and tennis, and many other sports are also looking at making use of this technology. The system is also being trialed in soccer. The Premier League of Football in the UK has agreed to the introduction of goal-line sensors after being given approval by football's rule-makers. The system being developed by the UK Company Hawk-Eye, would give a definitive decision on whether the ball had crossed the line. The Hawke Eye uses a camera taking 600 frames a second on the goal-line. The information is analyzed by computer and sent to the referee's headset or a device on his wrist.

  10. Technology is not only for uses of our daily works. Technology improves our daily life and if you concentrate the effect of technology in sport you can find out the improvement of sports quality for the technology. As an example technology in cricket brings a lot of improvement on the quality of it and worlds get more excitement matches for better technology. Technology can helps the teams to identify the weak points of opposite team and the weakness and the mistakes of players. In cricket some decisions of Umpires are not accepted by the opposite teams for the mistaken of umpires decision but now for the technology we can find out easily that the decisions of umpire is correct or not. Run out in cricket also carried some problem but for technology third umpire can make the decision by watching the television replays.

  11. I would say that technology are necessity in sports. Technology changes very fast including in sports. One of the example we can see is in Football match. During the football match, the umpire camera that is so accurate and clear which takes all the important moves and actions of the footballer that the media could replay the moves and actions clearly. Therefore, technology are important and necessity in sports because there are also technology on the athletes nutrition and health.

For example, the new medical procedures, knowledge of nutrition, and advanced facilities and equipment have helped to enhance athletic ability and extend the careers of players.

There was a time when an athlete with a knee injury faced major surgery just to find out what ailed a player. Technology has made it possible for players to find the root of a problem without missing months of playing time.

“Diagnostic techniques like MRI and arthroscope (surgery) were paramount in sports medicine,” Oakland Raiders trainer Rod Martin said.

Martin has worked for the Raiders for 21 years and has seen the evolution of rehabilitation and prevention methods.

Therefore, technologies and innovations in sports are important and necessity to the athletes and during any matches.

  12. Yes, of course, it is very important to facilitate technology in sports...For instance, "Tennis Rackets" are being improved with the help of technological advancements...Last time, tennis rackets were made of wood and the speed of the game was quite slow and today we use rackets made of graphite and titanium to enhance the speed of the serve and to ease the handling the racket...
